Chicago Chapter: July Updates

June Highlights:

  • Continued processing mail on a weekly basis, maintaining regular communication with inside members and taking new requests for pen-pals.
  • Participated and tabled at Pride Fest and Dyke March (200+ new sign ups)
  • Hosted Citywide Pen-Pal meet up for “free world” pen pals around Chicago to meet each other, share what is going on with our inside pen-pals, get feedback/support from each other in how to support/respond to our pen-pals, and write a note to our pen-pals. We also met with Mark Clements and Joey Mogul to learn about the John Burge Police Torture case and fight for reparations.

Upcoming Events:

  • July 23rd- Orientation and Info-Session. This is a public event intended to recruit new volunteers. We’ll be launching our new orientation: thinking through our understanding of “safety,” how the PIC is connected to the LGTBQ community, and what we can do to resist. The last hour will be an info-session explaining our Chicago chapter structure and how interested volunteers can plug in to our work.
  • Neighborhood Pen-Pal Meet-Up
  • 6 month Pen-Pal check-ins and Solitary Mailing
