Memorial service for those who perishished in Massachusetts prisons
The memorial service yesterday at the Church yesterday went really well. We got off to a bit of a rough start with the fire alarm but it was moving and beautiful anyway. There were a number of press folk there. The Boston Globe ran an article today. I am really glad at the number of folks who showed up. We were there in memory of so many people. The lists really are seemingly endless. The following are just some of those who allegedly committed suicide since 2005:
Shane Acker , Jarred Aranda, Andrew Armstrong , Ronald Binnette, Glen Bourgeois, Mark Cunningham, Russ Dagenais, Nicole Davis, Anthony Garafolo, Kellie Jo Griffen, Michael Keohane, Steve Koumaris, Daniel McMullen, Nelson Rodriguez, Jason Smith, Eduardo Soto, Manuel Tilleria, Sean Turner, Johnny Walker, John Yovino
We are living in a society that allows its prisons to be a giant mess. As our friends from Critical Resistance say, "There once was a day without prisons, one day we will get there again."
